Almanzar’s Single Leads Fort Wayne To 3-2 Win Over West Michigan

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Luis Almanzar hit a run-scoring single in the third inning, leading the Fort Wayne TinCaps to a 3-2 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps on Wednesday.

The single by Almanzar, part of a two-run inning, gave the TinCaps a 2-1 lead before Gabriel Arias hit an RBI double later in the inning.

In the top of the sixth, West Michigan cut into the lead on a double-play groundout by Luke Burch that scored Garrett McCain.

Fort Wayne right-hander Luis Patino (1-0) picked up the win after allowing two runs on five hits over five innings. Opposing starter Matt Manning (1-2) took the loss in the Midwest League game after allowing three runs and five hits over five innings. Jared Carkuff recorded his second save of the season.

Burch doubled and singled twice for the Whitecaps.
