Fayette, Oh – The Fayette Community Development Corp. (Fayette Chamber) has announced that its annual Recognition Dinner will be held on Thursday, June 25th at the Fayette Opera House with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. and dinner served at 6:30 p.m.
The annual event focuses attention on those whose efforts define and sustain our community. The announcement of Fayette’s Citizen of the Year is one of the highlights of the event.
The CDC selected award winning journalist Keith Burris of THE BLADE will present the Keynote address for the event. Since his return to THE BLADE, Burris’s columns have focused on the importance of community leadership and involvement; characteristics that Fayette residents have long respected and valued.
Burris has been a journalist for 30 years and has written widely on politics, government, culture, and the arts for publications ranging from Commonweal to The New York Times. He worked previously for The Blade from 1986 to 1989. For 25 years he lived in Connecticut where, for 21 years, he was editorial page editor of the Journal Inquirer, in Manchester. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh and has taught at a number of American colleges and universities. While in Connecticut, Mr. Burris won the Allen B. Rogers Award — for the best single editorial, in any newspaper, regardless of size, in New England in a single year. The award was judged by the Nieman Fellows at Harvard. He is the author of Deep River: the Life and Music of Robert Shaw and the editor of No-Fault Politics by the late Sen. Eugene J. McCarthy.
Keith and his wife Amy, a painter and art teacher, have three grown children — Alexander, Sophia, and William.
Dinner tickets for the event are $15.00 for CDC Members and $20.00 for non members.
