Calvin D. Gorsuch, age 92, of Pompano Beach, Florida and formerly of Wauseon, Ohio, passed away Monday, August 22, 2016 at Manor Pines Nursing Home in Florida after a lengthy illness. He was born September 26, 1923 to the late Robert and Nora (Ledyard) Gorsuch in Wauseon.
Cal was a graduate of Wauseon High School class of 1941 and was the last surviving male, of 44, from that class. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and served in England during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as Electrician’s Mate, First Class. In 1951, he married his wife of 65 years, Jeanne Etchen.
Cal was employed as Electrician and Maintenance Chief at Wauseon Manufacturing for 35 years, until the plant closed. He was subsequently employed at Defiance Precision Products in Defiance, Ohio, where he worked in Research and Development until he retired. In 1988 Cal and Jeanne moved from Wauseon to Toledo, Ohio. They were active members of Epworth United Methodist Church in Toledo for 25 years, until they moved to Florida in 2013.
Cal was a member of the Wauseon Elks Lodge and American Legion Post 265 in Wauseon. Cal enjoyed playing golf and fishing on Lake Erie. He was a Detroit Tigers fan and an avid supporter of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Cal was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Wayne Gorsuch. He is survived by his wife Jeanne, his son Scott Gorsuch of Phuket, Thailand and daughter Kim (Ken Johnson) Gorsuch of Pompano Beach, Florida and sisters, Eleanor Abdo of Toledo and Virginia Busch of Wauseon. Cal is also survived by grandchildren Brandon Schantz of Wauseon and Brady Gorsuch of New York City, New York and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 State Route 109, Delta, OH 43515 with visitation beginning at 10:00 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am. Private interment will be at Wauseon Union Cemetery at a later date.
