Carly Bontrager Crowned As Pettisville’s Homecoming Queen

PETTISVILLE – On Saturday, February 4, 2017, Pettisville High School celebrated their 2017 Homecoming. The ceremony was conducted prior to the beginning of the JV game with Ayersville. At that time Carly Bontrager was crowned as the queen.

The evening’s festivities began at 5:10 pm as freshman attendant Zoe Isabella Bullano and her escort, Mitchell Avina entered the gym down the lighted path to center court. Zoe is the daughter of Amy and Angelo Bullano. She participates in softball and FCCLA. Zoe describes herself as friendly, positive, and radical.

Freshman escort Mitchell James Avina, is the son of Benny and Josie Avina. His hobbies include playing basketball and hanging out with his friends. Mitchell is involved in basketball, soccer, Noteworthy, and Central Mennonite MYF. Mitchell describes himself with these three words; cool, calm, and collected.

The sophomore class was represented by attendant Morgan Ann Leppelmeier and escort Elijah Lee Grieser. Morgan is the daughter of Brian and Amy Leppelmeier. Morgan’s hobbies include being with friends and family, playing sports, and just having fun. She is involved in basketball, volleyball, cross country, track, Zion MYF, and St. Michaels Church. Morgan’s favorite quote from a movie is “We’re all in this together” from High school musical.

Elijah is the son of Tim and Carrie Grieser. In his free time, Eli enjoys playing soccer, basketball, and hanging out with his friends. He is involved in Zion MYF, Club Soccer, Pettisville Soccer, and is on the basketball team. The three words he used to describe himself are crazy, humorous, and loud.

This year’s Junior attendant is Elizabeth Ann Sauder who was escorted by David Scott Rupp. Liz is the daughter of Dan and Ezzie Sauder. Her hobbies include running, and playing racquetball and volleyball. She is involved in cross country, track, Tedrow MYF, and NHS. Her favorite saying is “We run for fun to get work done”.

David parents are Scott and Laura Rupp. In his free time, David enjoys eating, sleeping, hanging out with friends, and playing sports. He is involved in basketball, FCA, and Pettisville Missionary Youth Group. David describes himself with these three words; handsome, jittery, and lovable.

This year’s senior attendant is Esmerelda Hernandez, daughter of Gonzalo and Idalia Hernandez. Her hobbies include shopping, hanging out with friends, and hot tubbing. Ezzie is involved in choir, Spanish Club, Student Council, FCCLA, and Xchange youth ministries. After high school, Ezzie hopes to study to become an LPN. When asked to describe herself in three words, she said “I am a rebel”.

This year’s senior escort is Nathan Alan Hartzler, son of Al and Stacy Hartzler. In his free time, Nate enjoys hanging out with the guys and his family, and playing baseball. He is involved in Pep Band, Noteworthy, Musical, soccer, baseball, West Clinton MYF, FCA, and NHS. After high school, he will be attending Capital University or Cleveland State University majoring in Electronic Media and Film and minoring in Computer Science. His favorite quote is, “Two things define you: your patience when you have nothing and your attitude when you have everything”.

This year’s homecoming kindergarten princess is Colette Sage Heising, daughter of Derek and Sarah Heising. Her hobbies include playing doctor, doing ballet, making cards, pretending, doing fun things with her family, taking pictures with her camera, reading books, using tape to pretend she has injuries, and kissing her little brother even though he doesn’t like it anymore.

This year’s homecoming kindergarten prince is Jaxon Ryan Wyse, son of Ryan and Shari Wyse. He enjoys playing outside, collecting Pokémon cards, playing with his brothers, riding bike, and playing basketball. Three words Jaxon used to describe himself are silly, funny, and nice.

The queen’s escorts were Caleb Troy Rychener and Benjamin James Gray. Caleb is the son of Troy and Sheri Rychener. He enjoys hanging out with friends, listening to music, watching Netflix, and eating. Caleb is involved in basketball, soccer, and FFA. After high school, Caleb plans to attend Bowling Green State University majoring in Marketing. His favorite quote is “You never really know the true value of a moment, until it becomes a memory.”

Benjamin is the son of Susan and Brian Gray. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, archery, having fun with friends, and playing video games. Ben is involved in cross country, track, basketball, and FFA. After high school, Ben plans to study Biology and Forensic Science at an undecided college. His favorite quote is “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

This year’s homecoming queen is Carly Emma Bontrager, daughter of Nancy Yoder and the late Greg Bontrager, Her hobbies include painting, baking, playing volleyball, and spending time at the lake. Carly is involved in volleyball, NHS, FCA, and West Clinton MYF. After high school she will be attending Bethel College majoring in Early Childhood Education and minoring in Special Education. Carly’s favorite quote is “Life isn’t always wrapped up with a bow, but it is still a gift.” If Carly could change one thing in the world, she would want educators to be valued more because they are the ones who help prepare people for their futures. The three words that Carly used to describe herself are creative, joyful, and forgetful.

The host Blackbirds battled valiantly for Queen Carly against the Ayersville Pilots who are currently the #1 ranked team in Division IV. However they came up just short falling to Ayersville by a final score of 56-52. All was not lost however as the queen, her court, and the Pettisville student body were able to dance the rest of the night away after the game in the JH gym.
