Dorothy Bernath-Menden (1928-2013)

Menden Dorothy - PictureDorothy (Miller) Bernath-Menden, age 84, of Delta, passed away at her home, surrounded by her loving family on September 30, 2013.  She was born November 7, 1928 to the late Raymond and Thelma (Smith) Miller.  Dorothy worked for many years at the Delta Bowling Lanes, Barn Restaurant and the Wire Factory in Wauseon before retiring from Fulton Tubing in Archbold.  She and her first husband, Fred Bernath also owned and operated a local restaurant in Delta for several years.  Dorothy enjoyed going to Church and having fellowship with other parishioners at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.  Some of her fondest hobbies included playing cards, bingo, traveling and spending the winter months in Florida.  After the death of her first husband Fred of 27 years, she later married George Menden, sharing 26 years together until his passing in 2005.  Dorothy was also preceded in death by her son, Mike Bernath, three sisters and four brothers.  She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie (Don) Ditch of Delta, Patricia (Richard) Brown of Swanton, Karen (Wayne) Rogers of Lyons; daughter-in-law, Maryann Bernath; stepdaughters, Angie Menden of Metamora, Debbie (Mark) Malak of Whitehouse; brother, Ray (Ann) Miller of Toledo and sister, Irene (Ronald) Cieslewicz of Toledo; seventeen grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  Friends may call 3:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St. Hwy. 109, Delta, where a Vigil Service will begin at 7:30 PM.  Prayers will begin at the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Friday followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Assumption, 13962 St. Rt. 64, Swanton, Ohio 43558.  Fr. Michael Dandurand will be officiating.  Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Assumption.  Contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or Senior Independent Hospice, 5810 Southwyck Blvd., Suite 101, Toledo, Ohio 43614 in her memory.  Online condolences may be sent to the family through our website at
