A trip to Disney World in 2018 is a go for high school music students at Evergreen Schools.
The Board of Education approved the trip at its Dec. 12 meeting,
In addition to the students, advisors Chris Lyons, Carolyn Loebig, Kristen Woodard, and other to-be-named adult chaperones were also greenlighted for bus travel to Disney World in Orlando, Fla. The trip is planned for Jan. 2-6, 2018.
Students will attend workshops and perform at special venues in the Disney World complex. The estimated cost of the trip is $890 per student, and will be funded through a combination of student fees, student fundraisers, and money contributed from the Evergreen Music Boosters.
In other news, the board:
Agreed to high school athletes to participate in the 2016-17 indoor track and field season using the Evergreen High School name. Athletes will be under the supervision of board-approved coaches or volunteers that have valid pupil activity certificates, and all participation will cease before the beginning of the outdoor track and field season. The district will assume no cost or liability for participants and coaches/volunteers.
Decided to join the Ohio School Board Association and will pay the $4,519 membership fee for 2017 (2016 – $4,611). In addition, the board will receive the free electronic version of the Briefcase. The board will also participate in the OSBA Legal Assistance Fund for the 2017 calendar year, at a cost of $250, to support the efforts of OSBA in obtaining favorable judicial decisions and to receive a year’s subscription to the quarterly School Law Summary (SLS).
Scheduled the 2017 annual organizational meeting at 6:45 p.m. Jan. 9 in the Loren Pennington Learning Center. The board elected Denise Leu as the President Pro Tempore to preside at the beginning of the meeting, until the newly elected president assumes the chair.
Discussed revised sports complex footprint designed by Kraig Beilharz. The Board directed Superintendent Jim Wyse to contact Beilharz to ask him to proceed with schematic renderings and vendor pricing.

•$612.77 from the Evergreen Athletic Boosters to the Evergreen Athletic Department for wrestling supplies.
•$50 from Timothy and Laura Gold to the Evergreen music department in memory of Charlene Conrad.
•$100 from Timothy and Laura Gold to the Zientek Family Scholarship in memory of Charlene Conrad.
•$100 anonymous donation to Evergreen Student Assistance Fund.
•$400 from Fulton County Pork Producers to Evergreen H.S. Family Consumer Science Class.
•Accepted the retirement resignation of Shirley Vande Sande as an aide for Evergreen Elementary School, effective Feb. 28, 2017. Superintendent Jim Wyse said “her services for our children will be missed.”
Accepted the resignation of Denise Kissling effective Nov. 21.
•Approved an unpaid Family Medical Leave Act request for Sarah Frankenfield, beginning Nov. 21, 2016 through Jan. 4, 2017.
•Approved Janice Smith for one additional hour per day to monitor students during academic assist (middle school). This will increase her time from three to four hours per day.
The additional one-hour per day increase will become effective Jan. 5, pending completion of the requirements to obtain an educational aide permit.
•Approved Jackson Langenderfer as a volunteer for Boys Basketball, and offered the following one-year supplemental coaching contracts for the 2016-17 school year. All volunteer and supplemental positions are pending completion or maintenance of all certification/licensure requirements, with all other pay and benefits:
