THE VILLAGE REPORTER

The Fayette Local Board of Education convened in regular session on the evening of May 11

Principal Jon Molter commended the staff and students for their perseverance in what seemed to be a year of state-mandated tests. At the high school level, 37 state-mandated tests were taken, “…which is a little bit test-crazy,” Mr. Molter said. He commended Ms. Suzette Boesger and the staff for coming together to make all the testing a success as part of a collaborative effort.

The Board moved to declare the Jack R. Gleason Memorial Scholarship Trust as failed, and no longer meaningful as to the purposes set forth in the trust agreement. The original trust agreement stated that the annual Gleason Scholarship was to be paid out of accumulated interest on the seed amount of $15,000. With the downward spiraling of interest rates over the past decade though, the scholarship award amounts suffered accordingly, and now the amount would be historically low. That being the case, the Board chose not to serve as its trustee any longer, and opted to fulfill the obligations of the trust by paying the fund balance of $15,027.38 over to the Children’s Hospital of the District of Columbia, 111 Michigan Avenue, Washington, D.C.

The Board approved the financial report for April, along with the updated five year forecast for fiscal year 2015. The Board also approved a donation from American Legion John Dale Post 143 for an American Flag, valued at $50.00.

The Board extended contracts for fiscal year 2016 to Kandi Lemley as JV/Varsity Cheerleader Coach, Matt Maginn as Boys JV Basketball Coach, Ryan Colegrove as 9th Grade Boys Basketball/Varsity Assistant Coach, Andy Richardson as 8th Grade Boys Basketball, Mat Johnson as 7th Grade Boys Basketball Coach, Barbara Figgins as Girls JV Basketball Coach, Geoffrey Gilmore as 7th Grade Girls Basketball Coach, Keith Klein as Assistant Golf Coach/JH Coach.

The Board accepted the resignation of Ruth Matthews as intervention specialist, effective June 3, 2015, and Todd Mitchell as Athletic Director, effective June 30, 2015.
The Board approved two year contracts beginning July 1, 2015 for Amy Mitchell as 5th grade teacher, Keith Klein as high school math teacher, Laura Millar for band teacher, and Scott Sanderson for high school science teacher beginning July 1, 2015. The Board granted time extensions beyond the contract year and the 2015-2016 fiscal year to Janna Ballmer (15 days), Pam Schultz (45 days), Marge Crowell, Deb Rupp and Lacy Stambaugh (5 days each).

The Board agreed to a 2015-2016 school year membership with the Ohio High School Athletic Association. The Board then moved to approve an agreement with the Fulton County Health Department to provide school nurse services for fiscal year 2016 in the amount of $6,005.00, and also approved the Hylant Group to provide property insurance coverage through Ohio School Plan in the amount of $24,652.00 from July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016.

The Board approved a historic one-year contract with the Fayette Normal Public Library for shared services for the 2016 fiscal year. “Our town library will be coming up and running our library here two days a week, possibly expanding into three days,” said District Superintendent, Mr. Erik Belcher. “They’re going to plan activities with our kids, and tie them in with our reading programs. When they do their summer programs, we’re really going to help with that to encourage more things being done.” The school is contributing $8,000 to the collaboration, all of which will come from community outreach grant funding. Look for the new programs to begin appearing at the library this summer.

The Board consented to a list of seniors for graduation for 2015, pending the completion of all requirements necessary to graduate. The Board also approved the High school/JH school fees for fiscal year 2016, and set the Elementary student fees for fiscal year 2016 at $45.00 per student.
