Galen H. Aeschliman (1921 – 2015)


InMemoryGalen H. Aeschliman, age 94 years, of Wauseon, died peacefully surrounded by family, on April 23, 2015, at Fairlawn Care Center in Archbold. He was born January 6, 1921, to Enos and Dora (Neuhouser) Aeschliman.

On August 26, 1945, Galen married Lois L. Nofziger. They were married 54 years until Lois’ unexpected death in November of 1999. Galen and Lois spent 40 years on the farm, raising crops and livestock. He was an active member of the local T-Bone Club and the 100 Bushel Club. In December of 1946 Galen completed auctioneer school and enjoyed volunteering his skills at various events. After moving off the farm, Galen became an avid woodworker, making marble rollers, games, puzzles, walking canes, and replicas of tractors and trucks. He donated a number of his handmade items to Black Swamp Benefit to support Sunshine and Mennonite Central Committee. Galen very much enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved to play games with them.

Galen is survived by his daughters Gloria (Doug) Gingerich, of Canby, OR, Shirley (Phil) Crossgrove, and Charlene (Ron) Roth, both of Wauseon, and Linda (Mike) Stuckey of Archbold, and sons John (Lisa Graf), Phil (Lisa Grieser), both of Wauseon, Brian (Lori Stuckey Aeschliman), of Archbold, and by his brother Merle Aeschliman. He has 22 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.

Galen was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister Marjorie Nafziger, brothers Kenneth, Hyrthal, Derald (Bud), and a grandson, Tyler Philip Aeschliman.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 26, 2:00-8:00pm at Fairlawn Chapel, Archbold. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 27, at 11 AM at Central Mennonite Church where Galen was an active member for many years. A private graveside service will be held at Pettisville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Mennonite Central Committee or the charity of your choice.
