HICKSVILLE – So much for breaking into the season on an easy note. The Pettisville Lady Blackbirds traveled to Hicksville for their season debut on March 30. After opening leads of 2-0 and 5-1, all the Ladybirds had to do was hold out for the win. Hicksville picked up two in the bottom of the fifth, and another two in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Pettisville went up 6-5 in the top of the ninth, but the Aces answered in kind in the home half of the frame. Hicksville then got a walk-off RBI in the bottom of the tenth to send Pettisville back to Fulton County with a 7-6 loss.
Delaney Nofziger went the route for 0-1 Pettisville, allowing 7 runs on 16 hits and a walk, whiffing 10.
Amber Klopfenstein clocked a pair of doubles, Nofziger had a double and a single, and Stephanie Hubby rapped a pair of base hits for Pettisville.
