FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Luis Patiño threw five no-hit frames, but the TinCaps fell, 6-3, against the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays) on Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd at Parkview Field.
The 18-year-old native of Colombia matched a season-long, tossing five scoreless innings, as he scattered three walks and a hit batter. He struck out four. With the outing, Patiño lowered his ERA to 3.22 in five starts this season.
Fort Wayne (27-33) broke the scoring seal in the bottom of the third inning. First baseman Nick Feight (pronounced: FIGHT) opened the inning with a double, and left fielder Jack Suwinski followed with an RBI double to right field to score the first run of the game. Later in the inning, second baseman Esteury Ruiz singled to center field to score Suwinski and put the TinCaps ahead, 2-0.
Lansing (39-23) responded in the top of the sixth. Ryan Noda launched his fourth home run in three days over the right-center field wall to score Brock Lundquist and tie the game at 2-2. Ryan Gold chipped in an RBI double to center field to score Yelstin Gudiño and give the Lugnuts their first lead of the night, 3-2.
The TinCaps tied the game again, 3-3, in the bottom of the sixth when Luis Almanzar scored from third on a groundout.
The Lugnuts took the lead back in the top of the ninth. Reggie Pruitt ripped a groundball down the right-field line to score pinch-runner Kevin Vicuña from first and put Lansing up, 4-3. The Lugnuts added two more insurance runs to take a 6-3 advantage that held.
In the loss, Ruiz, Feight, and Suwinski all had two-hit performances as Fort Wayne outhit Lansing, 9-6.
