Seniors Enjoy The Wauseon High School Chorale During The Valentine’s Tea & Pose

NEWSPAPER LOGOFebruary 21st, 2014 (WAUSEON, OH) Valentine’s Day marked a special occasion, and a busy day for many Fulton County area seniors. Starting out with a special Valentine’s Day tea at the Fulton County Senior Center Wauseon site, approximately 70 seniors from Archbold, Delta, Fayette, Swanton and Wauseon enjoyed sipping tea to the beat of Wauseon High School Chorale.

“It was great to see so many Seniors come out for this event,” Sheri Rychener, Senior Center Director said, “They had a lot of fun and as always, the Wauseon High School Chorale put on a great show.” Senior Center participant Mary Gype thought it was fantastic and well done. She stated “I sat by new people, and I’m so glad the Chorale came! I applaud the employees for the extra work and effort.”

Many Seniors didn’t stop there. They met at McDonald’s in the evening to enjoy a “Candlelight Dinner.” “I loved and enjoyed it,” participant Barb Schroeder said, “people were taking pictures. I would love to do this all over town.”

And for the grand finale, the evening ended at the Wauseon vs. Evergreen boys basketball game in which seniors and the Wauseon and Evergreen Cheerleaders collaborated together for a special intergenerational “Flash Mob” during half-time of the boys basketball game.

“We are always looking for ways to incorporate the younger generation and our seniors in working on projects together. We believe it is an important learning and relationship building experience that benefits both the seniors and high school students.” Rychener reached out to Wauseon High School Cheerleading Coach, Jessica Schuette and Matt Hutchinson to see if they would be interested in pulling together a flash mob. They were on board, so a date was chosen. They had a couple of practices and they were ready for the big night. Over 50 seniors participated and approximately 150 total performed the flash mob during halftime of the varsity game. A video will be posted on the Senior Center website in the near future. When asked how he felt about the flash mob at the basketball game, participant Bill Taylor commented that it was fun. “This is something totally new and lots of fun,” he stated. Marie Hale also noted that she participated because she enjoys having fun.
