Swanton Public Library Schedules Summer Events For All Ages

Mondays, June 13, 20, and 27 from 10:15 am to 11:45 am – Beginning Yoga. This class is slightly more advanced than Intro to Yoga, offering students an opportunity to expand their skill level. Class fee is $10.00 per session with multi-session tickets available. Students are asked to bring a yoga mat and towel and to wear comfortable clothing.

Mondays, June 13, 20, 27, July 11, 18, and 25 from 4:30 pm to 5:15 pm – Music & Movement. Music and movement are tied together with literacy in this new family series on Monday afternoons. Sing, dance, play instruments, and read! Focus is on preschool and early grades, but the entire family is welcome. Free!

Mondays, June 13, 20, and 27 from 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm – Evening Yoga. This class is safe for most beginners and focuses on yoga for stress and anxiety relief, learning to relax and calm the mind, and improving flexibility, balance, physical, and mental strength. Students are asked to bring a yoga mat and towel and to wear comfortable clothing. Class cost is $10.

Tuesdays, June 14, 21, 28, July 5, 12, 19, 26 at 10:30 am – Storytime. Weekly classes offered at Swanton Library for children ages 6 months to 5 years. Children will explore movement through stories, music, and crafts. Free. No registration required. There will be no Wednesday storytime during summer.

Thursdays, June 9, 23, and 30, from 10:15 am to 11:45 am, and on June 16 from 11:15 am to 12:45 pm – Intro to Yoga. Join us for a series of yoga classes taught by Aimee Strohbeck. Please bring a yoga mat and towel and wear comfortable clothing for easy movement. No experience necessary. Class fee is by donation with proceeds benefiting the library.

Thursday, June 9 from 10:30 am to 11:15 am – Record Breakers for grades K, 1, and 2. Do you have what it takes? Don’t wear nice clothes – we’re going to get dirty at this one! Children who just completed these grades are invited. Free! No registration required.

Thursdays, June 9, 16, 23, and 30 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm – Chair Yoga. This class involves the same poses done in other yoga classes, but modified to make them gentler while sitting or sometimes standing with a chair for balance and support. Class fee is $5. No yoga mat is required for this class.

Thursday, June 9, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm – Backyard Beekeeping. Ever wanted to learn more about bees and beekeeping? Beekeeper Bethany Carlson will share lots of interesting information. Thursday, June 9 at 7:00 pm – Adult book discussion led by Marty Kaback. This month’s topic is the nonfiction book Savage Harvest: A Tale of Cannibals, Colonialism, and Michael Rockefeller’s Tragic Quest by Carl Hoffmanby Linda Castillo.

Wednesday, June 15 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am – Yo, Yoga! for grades 3, 4, and 5. Can you be a dog? How about a tree? You can in yoga! Learn about poses and more with teacher Aimee Strohbeck. Children who just completed these grades are invited. Free! No registration required.

Wednesdays, June 15 and 29 from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm – Anime Club for grades 6-12. Join us to watch three episodes of anime(s) chosen by the attendees. Food and drinks will also be provided. Participants are welcome to come in cosplay, anime or otherwise. Free!

Thursday, June 16 from 10:00 am to noon – Medicare, Social Security, and Retirement Assistance. Valerie Edwards of the Fulton County Senior Center will work with individuals with questions pertaining to the above. Appointments are required – to schedule your free consultation, contact the Senior Center at 419-337-9299.

Thursday, June 16 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm– Introduction to Tai Chi. Tai Chi is an exercise characterized by agile steps with smooth and flowing movements; it can improve energy, healing, and relaxation with regular practice. Dawn Seigneur, owner of Sukha Yoga in Delta and a physical therapist with over 30 years of experience, will present on the history of Tai Chi and to lead students in some of the exercises. Saturday, June 18 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm – Brailey Depot Day. Join us for some unique old-fashioned festivities at the restored depot: walk with stilts, play chess, grind cornmeal, press cider, and make yarn dolls, candles, or rope! The Jim Wagoner family opens the depot for this fun family event each year to benefit the library. Refreshments are available by donation. Everyone is welcome! Monday, June 20 at 7:00 pm – Swanton Public Library Board of Trustees regular monthly meeting. Open to the public.

Wednesday, June 22 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am – Food Games for grades 3, 4, and 5. Join Melissa from OSU Extension for games and fun with food! Children who just completed these grades are invited. Free! No registration required.

Thursday, June 23 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am – Nighttime Ninjas for grades K, 1, and 2. It’s all about ninjas today! What else do you need to know? Children who just completed these grades are invited. Free! No registration required.

Thursday, June 23 at 3:00 pm – Water Games for grades 6-12. Come to the library for an afternoon spent beating the heat! We’ll have a mini-pool party on the lawn outside the library, with free snacks, water war games, a mini-pool, and more! No registration required. FREE!

Thursday, June 23 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm – Cardmaking Classes. Our series of cardmaking classes, led by Anna Geis, continues with instructions for making an embossed thank you card, a friendship card, and a get well card. The fee is $5.00 for 3 cards.
