After hearing no previous concerns at a previously held meeting, the Wauseon Board of Education officially approved the retirement and re-hiring of the district’s Treasurer, Karen Dameron during their February 9 meeting. The resolution involving the approval of the action notes that “the Board of Education wishes to retain the services of Ms. Dameron as a Treasurer, and believes that retaining Ms. Dameron as a Treasurer will be highly beneficial to the School District by maintaining continuity of management, avoiding the costs and uncertainties of a search, and, most importantly, allowing the School District to continue to benefit from the extensive knowledge, experience, and leadership abilities of Ms. Dameron.”
Financial matters approved during the meeting included:
•The bills, financial reports, and investments as presented.
•Donations of hats, gloves, and socks from Christ United Methodist Church to the WPS; $200 from the WHS Class of 1986 to the WHS Student Council fund; $100 from the Wauseon Lions Club to the WHS National Honor Society for assistance with sales; $200 from Mona and James Sauder to the WES Food Pantry; $1725.65 from the Wauseon Athletic Boosters to the WHS Athletic Department to be used toward the wrestling warm ups; and $50 from Christ United Methodist Church to the WPS Student Activity Fund.
•Modifications and supplemental modifications to the FY15 Permanent Appropriations.
Personnel items gaining approval included:
•One-year certificated non-athletic supplemental contracts as District Mentors for the remainder of the 2014-15 school year at 50% of the supplemental contract for Mark Britsch, Joy Hutchinson, and Brad Myers.
•Jack Croninger as a JV Baseball Assistant Coach for the 2014-15 school year and Jack Warncke as a Varsity Baseball Assistant Coach for the 2014-15 school year.
•Stephen Marks as a Volunteer Baseball Coach for the 2014-15 school year pending receipt of both a clean BCI/FBI background check and Pupil Activity Permit.
•Chris Roberts as a long-term substitute WMS Guidance Counselor to work part time for a maximum of 60 days at the daily per diem of $160.00, effective January 28, 2015 through the end of the 2014-15 school year.
•A request for parental leave from Brittany Schroeder, effective April 27, 2015 through the end of the 2014-15 school year.
•The resignation of Michael Short as Summer Instrumental 0.5 effective January 12, 2015.
•A one year limited classified contract for the 2014-15 school year to Ron Shipley as a WES 8 hour Sweeper, effective February 2, 2015.
•The placement of Eric Fry from a WHS 4 hour Sweeper to a WPS 8 hour Sweeper, effective February 2, 2015.
•A one-year limited classified contract to Jean LaFountain as a WHS 4 hour sweeper for the 2014-15 school year, effective February 2, 2015.
•Elisa Nelson as a Classified Substitute for the 2014-15 school year.
•Tracy Beck, Jen Grime, Brandy Heath, Joy Hutchinson, Matt Hutchinson, Michelle Leatherman, and Shawn Moore as OHSAA Team Duals Wrestling tournament workers, retroactive to January 28, 2015.
•Alan Albright, Hugo Barajas, Ken Baumgartner, Doug Kutzli, Tony Uribes, and Jacob Whitcomb as OSHAA Team Duals Wrestling tournament volunteers, retroactive to January 28, 2015.
•The resignation of Judy Echler as a WPS Sweeper, effective January 30, 2015.
•The placement of Jana Leininger from WPS Principal’s Secretary to EMIS Coordinator, effective March 2, 2015 through the 2015-16 contract year.
•A one year limited classified contract to Rachel Smith as the WES Secretarial Assistant for the 2014-15 school year.
•Karen Cheezan as a Classified Substitute for the 2014-15 school year pending receipt of a clean BCI/FBI background check.
Additional items approved by the board included:
•An overnight trip for the WHS Speech Team, effective May 21, 2015 through May 26, 2015 as presented
•The 2014-15 Preschool Parent/Student Handbook as presented.
Additionally, the board heard updates from the building principals as well as from Ryan O’Dell, Assistant WHS Principal. O’Dell provided a brief introduction of the monthly presentation “Different Roles of Educational Aides in our 4 Schools”. Tara Delgado (WPS), Lori Grime (WES), Sara Stuck (WMS), and Stacie Kessler (WHS) each spoke of their daily roles and answered questions.
The Board entered into Executive Session for the discussion of employment of personnel. No action was taken.
