West Unity Chamber Of Commerce Donates To Fire Department

The Monday, March 2, meeting of the West Unity Are Chamber of Commerce Board was called to order with 11 directors present and 3 absent. Also in attendance at the meeting were Assistant Fire Chief Jim Eisel and Tractor Club President Ed Gigax.

Eisel brought to the Board the topic of one of the two air meters used by the department. The oldest meter is failing and is in need of replacement. The device is used in CO(2) checks and other toxic gas checks. The cost of replacing the meter along with a confined space rescue adaptor is $1217.00. The Board provided Eisel with various other group names for the Fire Department to speak with regarding helping to secure the necessary funds as well as passed a donation to provide the department with $217.00 towards the replacement.

Gigax was happy to report that the planning of the 2015 Gathering Days has been going well and that he and Chamber President Alan Bennett had been staying in close contact to ensure effective communication and a successful event.

Also during the meeting, the Business and Member Services Committee reported over 45 renewal and new application had been received as part of the recent membership drive. Follow-up letters and thank you letters are also being sent. The Business and Industry Show Committee reported that they will be involved in a scavenger hunt during the show this year and passed a schedule around to make sure that there is enough coverage during the show. The Beautification Committee reported that it had met with West Unity Village Council and is working on the street light project with Council.

In old business, the Family Movie Night was scheduled for April 10 at 6:30 PM in the Commons at the school. The Board also reported that the Ribbon Cutting at Sassy Sisters on February 14 went well despite the day’s weather conditions.

In new business, it was announced that another new business will be joining West Unity soon. Carlo’s Fades and Cuts will open in the building with Stanley’s Guns and Ammo. A ribbon cutting is set for Friday, March 13 at 1:00 PM.

The Board also heard from President Alan Bennet regarding purchasing items for the annual fall auction early due to various sales taking place. Members approved $250.00 in early purchases.

The minutes of the February 2 meeting as well as the Treasurer’s Report given by Treasurer Pat Burkholder were also both approved as presented.

The next meeting of the West Unity Area Chamber of Commerce Board will be held on April 6 at 7:00 PM in the Library Conference Room.
